Due to its difficult location Excelsior Trust is seeking to develop a new water access to its historic ship maintenance yard in Lowestoft. This will help to regenerate water traffic on Lake Lothing and introduce new people to the world of maritime heritage. Additional work is to be undertaken to provide interpretation and visitors facilities at the Yard.

“Excelsior sails….therefore she lives….preserved for all to share….preserved through use”

Lowestoft's historic ship Excelsior is recognised by the National Maritime Museum in the top fifty most important vessels in our maritime heritage.  The trawler, owned by the Excelsior Trust and run by the Cirdan Sailing Trust, takes people to sea to experience their maritime heritage, both natural and historic.

Authentically restored historic vessels require specialist facilities and skills if they are to survive, and the Excelsior Shipyard is being developed to provide this support.

NorthSEAfaring is helping with access, both physical and intellectual, which will open a window on Lowestoft’s past, and keep alive the prospect of a maritime future.
